BEST WATERFALLS FOR YOUR ICELAND ELOPEMENT
There are so many things that make Iceland one of the most beautiful spots on Earth, but its waterfalls are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. They’re so magnificent that getting up close to them feels like you’ve traveled to another world. If you’re considering an Iceland waterfall wedding, I’ve got your back. Here are the top waterfalls in Iceland for an unforgettable elopement ceremony.
Waterfalls are always one of the top requests that we get when it comes to an Iceland wedding ceremony spot. From massive walls of water to magical spouts that create non-stop rainbows throughout the day.
I will take you on a trip to my top waterfalls for your Iceland wedding photos as well as more private secluded spots for your wedding ceremonies
Gjain valley
“Waterfalls for days” it would be impossible to count the number of waterfalls that are peaking out and winding throught this fairytale vallery located in icelands non-touristy quiet and secluded interior.
If you’re planning an adventure elopement in Iceland, I highly recommend the intricate network of wild waterfalls known as Gjáin Valley. As an Iceland elopement planner, it’s one of my favorite spots in all of Iceland for an elopement ceremony especially for the privacy you’ll get.
Gjáin Valley is a well-kept Icelandic secret. Locals love it because of its fairytale setting, but it’s usually free of tourists. This combination of natural beauty and peaceful seclusion makes Gjáin Valley a perfect location for an Iceland waterfall wedding.
The Gjáin hike is not long and is a fun place to climb and explore. We often take couples throughout Gjáin Valley for a long afternoon, exploring and hopping on rocks across the rivers to find hidden spots. You’ll need a car that can handle tight rounds (I can help with that – just ask).
Irafoss
On my scouting adventures, I take long days driving up and down every little dirt road in Iceland to find hidden treasures. That’s how I discovered Irafoss waterfall.
Located in the south of Iceland, this towering waterfall is the kind of place you have to see to believe. It’s located on private land but I work directly with the owners to make sure you can have access.
Plunging 135 feet in a narrow plume, Irafoss is a “secret” waterfall of mine that guarantees an intimate elopement ceremony and dramatic photos to accompany it.
Porufoss
Porufoss is my other “secret waterfall” – even a lot of the Icelanders I take there have never heard of it. It’s near the capital, but despite its central location, it feels off the beaten path.
Since Porufoss is in a canyon, you can’t see it from the road so you’ll need someone really familiar with Iceland elopement locations to get the most out of a trip here. As an Iceland elopement planner, I’m proud to share my knowledge and navigation of Porufoss to ensure you get a truly unique elopement ceremony and photo experience.
The journey into the canyon is a bit of an adventure – it’s a small canyon, but it’s steep. However, once we get into the canyon, you’ll have the beauty of Porufoss all to yourselves (it will be like your own private waterfall).
Porufoss is surrounded by a big, open field that shows off Iceland’s lush green landscape, and the lack of tourists means you can get right up to the waterfall for elopement photos that are completely unique.
Additional Waterfalls For Your Iceland Elopement Itinerary
All of the waterfalls in this list are great spots for an elopement ceremony, but I also wanted to highlight SkĂłgafoss, Seljalandsfossgets, and Kirkjufellsfoss.
These waterfalls are incredible too, but they’re not always the best spots for an elopement ceremony – definitely worth including on our adventure itinerary for additional photos though!
Kirkjufellsfoss
Skogafoss
